I'm going to share a little of a story I wrote for my children when they came home and shared their school day experiences of being bullied. Thankfully not severe but still the little egos were damaged. And we want our babies to grow up with a healthy ego. Since even the smallest things destroy the biggest egos good and bad. We all know that children pick on each other some of this is normal and healthy for development but their are times when it can be emotionally painful for a child and gets out of control. And there are the children that become a bully in fear that if they don't they will continue to be picked on. I know this will be an ongoing issue as long as we continue to populate, But we can try our best to soften the blow and hope to end the cycle.
Little Danny was a dreaming seven year old who sucked his thumb. Every day as he got to school the other children made fun of him and pushed him around. This hurt Danny so much but he kept this a secret from his parents. He would stand in front of the mirror and look at himself thinking he was pitiful and no one would ever like him. One day the biggest meanest bully kicked him in his shins and called him a big thumb sucking baby. Danny felt something strange happen first in his chest were all the sadness was that he was holding on to so tight. Then he felt something strange in his legs but he wasn't sure what was happening. The days went on and his mother noticed he had some bandages wrapped around his legs. "Danny" his mom said. " whats going on with your legs?" Danny replied saying "Nothing" his response was a little muffled since he had been sucking his thumb. His mom was curious about the badges and wanted to take them off so she tried to get Danny to come closer but he wouldn't. So she brushed it off as him being creative and playing around. While still the kids at school seemed to bully him more. Throwing food at him during lunch and kicking him in the legs more. Danny wrapped more bandages around his legs to cover the bumps and bruises but he still felt strange and he felt taller and stronger. So he stood in front of the mirror again looking at himself but he only saw a small wimpy boy looking back at him because he started to believe what the bullies had been telling him he didn't see how strong he had become. At home Danny's mom noticed something different about him so she stopped him to take a look. In much surprise she gasped in aw. " Wow Danny, Your taller!" Dannys mom took him to see for him self in the mirror but he still only saw a small wimpy boy who sucked his thumb. Soon his mother began to call him "Danny Longlegs".
And others did too. the name seemed to fit him very well. And soon the bullies left him alone once they realized Danny grew taller and stronger with every hit and name they threw at him. Eventually Danny became the tallest boy in school. Dannys heart was full of love and every time he was hurt by the bullies he forgave them and that love helped him to grow healthy and strong. By not being a bully back he was able to show them that even though they didn't like him he still was able to be Danny. One day Danny decided to stop sucking his thumb only because he decided it was time. He didn't feel bad about himself anymore and was finally able to see how cool he was and how much he had grown. He no longer needed the bandages around his legs either. And was able to tell his parents what had been happening at school. His parents were so proud of him for being so strong and able to tell them finally that they gave him a big hug and told him they loved him.
